How To Create A Teacher Amazon Wish List

Classroom teachers spend an insane amount of money out of pocket each year buying classroom supplies. Additionally, many of us, including myself, have turned to Amazon for classroom items because it's so easy to do. If you are tired of spending your own money to enhance your classroom and curriculum, I highly suggest you check out the Amazon Wish List Feature. This is quickly becoming a game changer for teachers across the globe! I've already had parents purchase multiple items off my own list. (Not a fan of Amazon? Many other websites offer wish lists and registries. Consider Target, Oriental Trading, or even GiftYou.)

Creating Your Wish List

You can easily create a Wish List by visiting the Accounts and Lists tab in the right-hand corner of the site. From there, click on Create a List to set up a new list specifically for your classroom. Once your list is created, go to the three dots on the right to manage your list. Here you can customize your list settings, including changing the mailing address to your school so you do not have to lug the items from home!

Adding Items to Your Wish List

Now it is time to go virtual shopping. As you browse Amazon, simply add items to your list by clicking the dropdown menu add to list, which is located on the bottom of the right-hand sidebar, underneath the buy now buttons. So fun and easy!

Not sure what to add? Consider carpet spots, classroom doorbells, dry erase lap boards, a three-tier rolling cart, Sharpies, and flair pens! For more great ideas, check out our school supply central.

Sharing Your Amazon Classroom Wish List

Once you have created your list, you can share it with your network by either pressing the invite button at the top left or the send list to others link at the top right. You have the option of sending the list directly to email addresses or copying the link and pasting it wherever you want. Note: some teachers are not allowed to ask students' families to contribute to their lists, however, you can share it personally with your family and friends if they are willing to pitch in.

When you share, the list will change from private to shared, allowing only those with the link to see it. Setting the list to public allows anyone to donate items to your classroom, regardless if you sent the link or not. This is entirely up to you, depending on your comfort level. Regardless, it is up to the gift fairy to add his or her name on the packing slip or to keep the donation anonymous.

Amazon Clears the List for Teachers

Currently, Amazon is running its back-to-school Clear the List campaign to help teachers around the country fulfill their Amazon Classroom Wish List. To participate, your list must be set to public. Once this is in place, share your Amazon Classroom Wish List on social media and tag @amazon with #ClearTheList. This is another great way to ask for donations while spreading awareness about the lack of school supplies provided by districts to teachers. Think of it as a random act of kindness campaign. A win-win for all!

@MrsOTeachesK posted a thank you for a donation and included the hashtag. "Thank you R. Anderson for these wonderful, colorful baskets! They were needed for my additional students and morning STEM activities. Your support is greatly appreciated! #clearthelist"
